Varied tones - some nice metallic ringing, some dull thwacks, some brighter cracks, and some with a bit of crunch at the end to (partially) mimic the sound of crushing cartilage/bone.

Mess, mainly. Keeping something like that contained while still being able to capture the audio would require more equipment/ingenuity than I've currently got at my disposal lol.
