    Where to start?

I've been making short films for a few years now, and have used Freesound on multiple occasions. However, I need to make some audio for myself this time, and don't even know where to start. I don't even know what programs are used to produce these amazing audio files I hear. Can you guys help me get started making my own audio? Thank you very much, anything helps.

if recorded sounds is what you are after, I recommend a portable recorder.
The Zoom H1 is a basic entry model. Cost is ~ £100 new.
This will cover indoors recording relatively well.
Zoom and other brands offer more expensive models which with better mics -> better recording quality. I believe the H4 is quite popular...

For outdoors recording you will need good windshield. This also means you are liklely to need an external mic.

If you have never recorded anything and are just starting, I recomment a Zoom H1.
I also recommend that you start indoors. The kitchen offers endless useful sounds and is the best place to create most foley sounds.

    Good luck and happy recording.

    I want to believe.

You should download the free native instruments players to experiment with. These will allow you to make electronic sounds and also other emulated real instrument sounds. You can use the standalone programs as they are, but in order to use the plug-ins together simultaneously to make composite sounds you will need a multitrack software program (DAW).
